Bottom of the table Portsmouth suffered yet another setback in their disastrous campaign, losing 2-1 at home to ten man Stoke.
Pompey took the lead through Federic Piquionne but Stoke levelled five minutes after half time with a Robert Huth header.
Andy Wilkinson saw red for a second yellow card with almost 20 minutes to go but, with the home side desperately trying to capitalise on the numerical advantage, the Potters hit the knockout punch in the first minute of stoppage time through Salif Diao.
Diao was on loan at Portsmouth during the 2005/06 season but may now have condemned the South Coast side to relegation to the Championship.
