NBA: Lawson gearing up for huge season

Ty Lawson's 18-point masterclass against the Lakers during Summer League is about the best news the Denver Nuggets have had for months. Next season, Lawson's progress will be critical for a Nuggets team that has made no significant moves this off-season thus far.

He is expected to begin the season as Chauncey Billups' backup but, with Billups capable of playing off the ball as a 2-guard, the former North Carolina man should see far more minutes.

Denver is banking on the continued improvement of the likes of Lawson, Nene and Carmelo Anthony to keep them in the hunt in the West - and Lawson's efforts this week were a promising sign.
