NBA: West opening up a little

With Carlos Boozer and Amare' Stoudemire crossing to the Eastern Conference, the over-crowded West just got a little easier.

Both Utah and Phoenix now face an uphill battle to be high ranking seeds next season, leaving the Lakers, Mavericks and Thunder as the most impressive squads.

The Nuggets could also be considered in the contender bracket if minor tweaks are made to the roster before November. Currently, though, Denver has frontcourt problems due to injuries suffered by Kenyon Martin and Chris Andersen.

The West will still be fiercely competitive but a .500 season might well be good enough for the playoffs come April 2011.
