Carlos Tevez led the way as Manchester City set up a derby with city rivals United in the Carling Cup semi-finals.
City beat a young Arsenal line-up 3-0 at Eastlands, with Tevez netting a fine opener before Shaun Wright-Phillips and substitute Vladimir Weiss added the gloss.
United booked their place in the last four on Tuesday thanks to a Darron Gibson double against Tottenham as they bid to defend the trophy they won last season.
In the other semi-final, Blackburn clash with Aston Villa. Rovers outlasted Chelsea to win 4-3 on penalties after 120 minutes of action ended with the teams locked at 3-3.
And a Stewart Downing-inspired Villa battered hapless Portsmouth 4-2 at Fratton Park.
Looking ahead, United are the standout favourites but much will depend on the strength of the line-up that Sir Alex Ferguson picks when the semi-finals roll round.
