Amelie Mauresmo has retired from tennis at the age of 30.
The French star, who won the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2006, slipped to number 21 in the world rankings and admitted she no longer wanted to deal with the hours of practice required to keep up with the leading players in the women's game.
Mauresmo told reporters: "It's a bit sad, but this is the right decision. I was lucky enough to have an exceptional career and to experience very strong feelings on the court."
