Soccer: United injury crisis worrying Ferguson

Manchester United had plenty to smile about at the weekend as they hammered West Ham 4-0 and saw Chelsea lose at Manchester City. The Blues' lead is now just two points.

But along with all the positives, Sir Alex Ferguson will be losing sleep over his injury crisis in defence. With first choice centre back Rio Ferdinand already out, it has now been reported that Jonny Evans and John O'Shea will not play again until January while Nemanja Vidic has flu.

And at Upton Park on Saturday, Gary Neville and Wes Brown also picked up injuries.

Heading into the Champions League tie with Wolfsburg in midweek - which admittedly carries no major significance for United - Ferguson may have to pair midfielders Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher at the heart of the back four.

With a busy Christmas fixture list on the horizon, the growing queue for the treatment table is threatening to put a dampener on the champions' fine run of form.
