With Wayne Rooney not fit enough to even make the bench, Paul Scholes stepped up to fire Manchester United to the top of the Premier League. The champions left it late but Scholes' calm finish with 17 minutes to go clinched a 1-0 victory over Wolves.
Sam Vokes spurned a glorious chance to level in injury time, firing over from close range, and Wolves crafted a number of good openings. On another day, they might have been celebrating a crucial three points.
Instead, United took their chance and moved two points ahead of Chelsea and Arsenal, who beat Burnley 3-1 at the Emirates.
